Johnson Valley water fill?

Leaving for Johnson Valley for the first time in the morning and need to know if there is a place to fill up (and dump?) anywhere. We're coming north on the 15 to Bear Valley. Where do you fill up?
Thanks

Camping Games

I'm looking for some suggestions for outdoor camp games for me to play with my family while we camp. I'm thinking along the lines of horseshoes, but hopefully more fun/interesting.
Any suggestions are welcome!
Thanks

RE: 250 vs 450

I weigh 160 and ride a CRF250X. I am not really interested in winning races or going 80mph (my bike tops out at about 60ish with stock gearing. I ride a little bit of everything. From the twisty single track of Kennedy Meadows to the open hills in Ocotillo Wells I have yet to find something that the 250 couldn't do due to lack of power.
Now, that's not to say that someone else wouldn't find that level, as I'm sure it exists. I do not ride super aggressive or have the need to break my neck, so the 250 works great for me!
Like SoCal said, the 450F's will be similar in overall power to a YZ250, but they will ride much differently. A 4 stroke will have a much broader, flatter power, different weights, etc... the best idea would be to snipe a ride on someone else's bike to see which you like.
From your description of what you ride (family desert/trail rides) I think you'll be happy with a 250.

RE: Ever changed grey water tank?

more than anything it depends on the room under the trailer and where things are. You have to keep in mind where the extra weight of that grey water will be.
That being said - if you're handy it would be a snap to install a new or plumb a secondary tank in.

I saw that jeep running out there. Looks like they were having a good time bouncing around. That course was ROUGH. I can't imagine that jeep was the most comfortable ride!

RE: Weekend Warrior Purchase

A friend of mine just bought a 2010 WW. Just make sure you get it for a good enough price that you can do any repairs to the unit and still come out ahead. My '08 has seen maybe 5000 miles and total repairs maybe a few hundred dollars... maybe.
My buddy got his trailer for $20k, which was going for ~$27k before. That thing would have to fall apart for it to be a bad deal. Also, remember that all the major appliances have manufacturer warranties that are still intact.
If you like the WW (you'd have to be crazy not to!) then buy it! I wish I had money to upgrade to a new 'collectors edition' (AKA 2010) WW.

RE: Would you buy a WW now?

My friend just brought home his 2010 FS2300, which he paid $20k for. It's very nice. I'd buy one in a heartbeat if I had the means. The factory liquidator has some really nice (BIG) RKD 5ers - man would one of those be nice.

RE: ? for Ford Excursion owners

I have 2 6.0 PSD's.
My '04 X has ~50kmiles. I have had only minor issues thus far. I killed an alternator in lake havasu this summer, but leaving it idling for too long in ~120 degree heat with the A/C crankin' was not the best, I've no doubt.
As far as it's towing ability goes I have been very happy with it. It has an 11k lbs. capacity, though I would not tow anything near that without airbags(suspension is WAY too soft). There is not a vehicle out there that can compete with an excursion. I get ~12 mpg towing, it tows the trailer in my sig very safely with my HA hitch and I can carry my whole family with ample room. Even though I am up close to(a bit over?) my towing limit I have never had a bit of sway (thanks to HA hitch) and have never had any trouble stopping. I could definitely use some more ooomph to accelerate, but safety is my first concern and that is covered.
I also have an '05 F-350 that I have towed my trailer with. It certainly handles the load with much more grace, but not so much that I feel the need to always tow with it.
I've heard a lot of bad talk about the problems with the 6.0PSD, but have yet to experience any serious issues. The DMAX that I have has been in the shop multiple times, though. Go figure.
If the excursion fits your need, then I'd get it for sure. I've never regretted having it. My wife LOVES it, too, which is good since it's her mommy-mobile.
Seems like I have too many vehicles.... anyone want an '05 F-350? I'll sell it cheap!

RE: Warrior / Rage'n

I just got back from the place. These people (craigslist ad) were hired by a company that the bank (the one that took over warrior) hired to liquidate existing inventory. Does that make sense... I'm not sure.
Trailers are mostly finished, but most do not have graphics. Some don't have tv's and other small accessories (pillows, bedding, etc...). They have a whole row (25?) of 2010 FS2300's, ~5 Road Warriors, ~5-10 RKD 5ers and ~5 Ragen 5ers. There are some other beat up trailers, but didn't look at them.
My buddy made an offer of for one of the FS23's. The bank is supposed to get back to him in a couple days. The lady said that the RKD's (I want one!) are going for $45k ($77k MSRP). Road Warriors she says $90k. She is on commission, so who knows what you can actually get them for. GiantRV wants $23k for their FS23's.
As an aside - the 2010's are really nice trailers! What a shame this company is gone. I know there are haters all over the place, but man - they are slick. A lot of the little things that bug me about my trailer are fixed on these 2010 models. The double beds are now on a chain (no more ropes and pulleys!) and the furniture has been beefed up considerably - no more wobbly legs.

RE: Oceano Dunes / Pismo trip

So we're back. The trailer is a mess, the toys are a mess... sand... everywhere.
We got there Wed. at about noon, which was high tide. We waited an hour for it to start going down. I didn't know where to stop so I pretty much went to the end of the camping area. The sand was REALLY soft towards the end. Thankfully I got my rig turned around without getting stuck - after being reassured by some friendly campers.
We finally found a perfect beach front spot right next to pole 5. A really great camp spot. The wind blew all day until about 6pm. I've never eaten so much sand in my life. That was pretty miserable and I was wondering why anyone liked the place. Thankfully thursday the wind calmed some and then friday the wind was calm all day.
Next time I will bring a big tarp to lay over the toys at night. They were nasty and grimy every morning.
Altogether a VERY fun trip. Thanks for all the tips and input. We didn't even get stuck, though I did get the rhino stuck once.

Thanks for all the help!
I've got my nail-free firewood, my caution tape and compressor ready to roll. We leave in the morning. I'll post some pictures of the disaster/success when we get back.
Wish me luck.

Question: Do you have to have a container (dryer tub) for a campfire, or can I just make my own pit?
Thanks for all the tips/feedback.

Oceano Dunes / Pismo trip

I'm heading to Pismo on Wed. 8/20. This will be my family's first trip, so I'd like to make sure I have at least a clue... I've seen threads about this before, but I can't seem to find them. Sorry if it is a repeat. If you know where those threads are, please post the link.
I remember reading that there is a dump right before you drive onto the beach, but I don't remember if there is potable water available at the same spot... is there? If not, then where?
Are there any restrictions on dogs?
I'll be towing my fsc2800 with my F350 4x4. When should I air down my tires and to what pressure? All tires, or just truck tires?
I've read about camping near poles and that you should go to xyz pole... Are these literal poles? Distance markers? What is the difference?
Any other tips/links that will make my first pismo trip more enjoyable?
Thanks!

RE: Warrior's assets siezed

Not possible. Investors don't buy RED companies these days.
paul
Investors buy RED companies all the time! In fact RED companies are often the best investments since they often have very strong sales (i.e. WW) and are very poorly managed (i.e. WW again). That is what Cerebrus does (ala Chrysler) much of the time.
My prediction: either WW will emerge from some sort of BK as a smaller, leaner and higher quality company making better quality products OR they will be acquired in BK by someone who sees the value and will continue the brand.

RE: Anyone buying Diesel in Mexico?

my 2 cents worth
over the border 2 dollars 23 cents a gallon
This side of the border 4 dollars and 50 cents and above and rising.
record profit for the big oil companies, does not take a rocket scientist to figure this out.
Just a little googling tells you exactly why fuel is so much cheaper in mexico.
LINK
No big oil conspiracy, just the same worn out socialist populism. Don't let the fact blind you to the 'truth' of the conspiracy, though. Keep preaching! Big oil is all that is wrong with america. I mean, really, they make a staggering profit of 11 cents on the dollar!
Check the numbers for yourself.
